about

In 2003 I met Troy Utz on an online forum for musicians, and we started almost immediately to record a CD. Neither of us had ever completed a project like this but it was a great period of writing and recording songs intensively for about nine months. We set up a studio in my bedroom and recorded all instruments and vocals ourselves, with the exception of the guitar solo by Joe Wise.

17 years later, I am still proud of this CD and continue to enjoy listening to it. I think the songs are strong and fresh, with a nice mix of psychedelic, romantic and lofi. Our voices harmonised very naturally and our skill sets were complementary: a lot of the instrumentation and production came from me, whereas Troy was great at bringing sonic texture and a sense of anarchy and humour to the production.

We were both heavily into The Beatles at the time, and I think this album most resembles The White Album. There are also definitely hints of The Band, as well as more contemporary acts like Beck and Badly Drawn Boy.

I hope that you enjoy listening to it.

about

Robert Gray Aachen, Germany

I perform and record my own "sketchbook-pop" songs in my home studio. I try and keep everything as "live" and performance- based as possible - no programming or auto-tune for me! I'm influenced by classic songwriters like Cat Stevens or Paul Simon, and my guitar playing draws on great pickers such as JJ Cale and Richard Thompson.

Thanks for supporting my music-making!
